LOS ANGELES – Music icon Cyndi Lauper adds to her vast history of memorable holiday classics with her new cover of “Hard Candy Christmas.” Famously recorded by Dolly Parton and written by Carol Hall, the song originated in the play and film The Best Little Whorehouse In Texas. This adds to Lauper’s veritable canon of Christmas songs which includes her classic album Merry Christmas… Have A Nice Life and legendary collaborations with Frank Sinatra (“Santa Claus Is Coming To Town”) and The Hives (“A Christmas Duel.”)  The track can be heard now at SoundCloud and will be available at all digital download and streaming outlets this Friday, December 11.

Ever the musical chameleon, Lauper is in the final production stages for her new album Detour, recorded in Nashville and showcasing her signature takes on classic country songs from the 1950’s and 60’s. The album will also feature appearances by some of country music’s most celebrated artists. Detour will be Lauper’s first album for Sire Records and will be executive produced by legendary Sire founder Seymour Stein. The album is set for release in 2016 with more details to follow in the coming months.

Detour is the follow up to Lauper’s most recent studio album, 2010’s critically-acclaimed, Grammy-nominated Memphis Blues. A celebration of the blues, Memphis Blues featured collaborations with B.B. King, Jonny Lang, Allen Toussaint, Ann Peebles and Charlie Musselwhite and debuted at #1 on theBillboard Top Blues Albums Chart. The album held the top spot for 14 weeks, finishing out 2010 as the top-selling blues album of the year.
