Cyndi Lauper Joins Anniversary Oliviers
From Official London Theatre - by Matthew Amer
Pop icon and the composer of nominated musical Kinky Boots, Cyndi Lauper will prove Girls Just Want To Have Fun and make Everyone Say Yeah at the Olivier Awards 2016 with MasterCard.
In what could be considered an early warm-up for her five UK concert dates in June, the True Colors singer will perform as part of the prestigious prizes’ 40th anniversary ceremony at the Royal Opera House on 3 April.
Lauper, who is also nominated in the Autograph Sound Award for Outstanding Achievement In Music for her Kinky Boots music and lyrics, is not the only US star flying in for the globally renowned ceremony. Singer, pianist and Great American Songbook expert Michael Feinstein will also perform on British theatre’s most glamorous night.
Following yesterday's announcement about the first stars that will join host Michael Ball on stage at the iconic Covent Garden venue, a further quartet from Jamie Lloyd-directed productions have been confirmed.
Kit Harington, best known as Game Of Thrones’ Jon Snow but returning to the London stage in Doctor Faustus, and The Maids’ Uzo Aduba, Zawe Ashton and Laura Carmichael will help to announce the night’s deserving winners.
They will be joined by former Glee star Amber Riley, who is set to lead the London cast of Dreamgirls when the Broadway hit comes to the West End this winter.
